Can blood from the umbilical cord help treat leukemia?

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, I am 16 weeks pregnant, and everything is going well. However, my father was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and I was wondering if the blood in my baby’s umbilical cord can help cure him. Do you know? Thanks for your help, Janick

Hello Janick,

I understand what you want to do to help your father. There are many types of leukemia, and I can’t say if the blood in your baby’s umbilical cord, which contains stem cells, could help your father. Please read my article Stem Cells and Umbilical Cord Blood for more information about this scientific revolution. You can then ask your doctor for more details.
