What can I take for a cold while breastfeeding?
Marie, I am breastfeeding and was wondering whether medications I take for my cold will be transmitted to my baby. If yes, can it be harmful?
Thanks, Sonia
Once the baby is born, a mother can take certain medications that were advised against during pregnancy. The typical example is ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Naproxin) that you can take when breastfeeding to relieve pain, inflammation or fever. I wrote an article about medications permitted during breastfeeding to help you make the right choice.
