My baby has started sucking their thumb. Should I give them a pacifier?

38-39 weeks pregnant, Baby/parents, Your questions

Hello Marie! I took a class with you this weekend. Thank you for everything you do. You must be busy, but I have a question…

I am confused about pacifiers. My son is just over four months, and he doesn’t use a pacifier. One week ago, he started sucking his thumb. I have seen many babies who have been using a pacifier for over a year. I was told that thumb sucking can create a dependency and cause dental problems. I am proud that I haven’t started the pacifier yet, but now I feel a bit lost. My baby cries when they are tired and hungry…I think this is normal…what do you think? Thank you!
