I feel really down! Is this postpartum depression?

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, I took your prenatal classes. You sometimes talked about how we might feel down after childbirth. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I lack enthusiasm, I don’t feel like doing anything, and I’m happy when someone else takes care of the baby. I would like to feel better, and my partner is discouraged with my feelings, as we didn’t expect it to turn out this way. How can I feel better?

Thanks for your help. I trust you!

Judith

Judith, I am happy you opened up to me. You are not alone, as many feel the same way after what is supposed to be a happy event. Many mothers don’t talk about it for fear of being judged. But you have to come out of the closet and talk about how you feel to get the help you need to feel better. Postpartum depression is real and hurts the whole family. That’s why you have to deal with it and get the necessary support. Please read the article I wrote on the topic with two psychologists. Don’t give up!
