I’m breastfeeding and I have a cold. Can I infect my baby?

Your questions

My name is Alice, and I’m breastfeeding my 3-month-old full-time. I have a severe cold with a cough, congestion and a bit of fever. I was wondering if I can infect my baby and if it’s better to use a different type of milk until I’m better. Thanks for your advice, Alice.

On the contrary Alice. Your milk will help protect your baby from most infections. By breastfeeding your baby, you’re giving it antibodies you produce when in contact with microbial agents. Each time you feed your baby, you give them the best possible natural antibiotics.

That’s why mothers are often “sicker” than their breastfed babies! 😊

I suggest that you take care of yourself, eat and sleep well, drink a lot of water to get over your cold.
