My baby is constipated!

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, my name is Rachel, and I am worried because my six-week-old baby is constipated. Most of the time he is fine, but when he tries to pass his stool, he pushes really hard! He twists around, and after time, he succeeds. How can I help my baby’s constipation and help him pass his stool? Thanks for your help, Rachel

Rachel, you are asking an excellent question, because many parents worry about this. In fact, I don’t know if your baby is constipated or not.

The consistency of their stool determines if a baby is constipated or not, not the frequency. For a young baby like yours, you also have to consider the milk they drink. Intestinal elimination by a breastfed baby will be different from a baby who drinks formula. Please read my article Baby Constipation, where you will learn more.
