My one-week-old daughter has traces of blood in her diaper

Postnatal, Your questions

I had my daughter a week ago, and I found traces of blood in her diaper. I can’t figure out why. Marie, have you ever seen this?

Judith

Judith, I simply think that your baby daughter has vaginal discharge with blood in it, which is called “pseudo-menstruation.” This discharge is associated with the withdrawal of hormones the mother transmitted to her baby in utero. Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t hurt her and the discharge will usually dissipate within 10 days after childbirth, and won’t start again for about another 11 years! 😊
