Failure to Conceive: Fertility Tests for Women

Health advice

Hello Everyone,

Infertility is a huge topic! After writing a general article about infertility, and a second about factors that can influence reproduction, I want to go deeper with this article.

L’infertilité est vraiment un vaste monde! Après avoir écrit un billet plus général sur l’infertilité et un deuxième sur les facteurs qui peuvent influencer la reproduction, je veux par ce présent billet, vous amener encore plus loin.

I will go into the details about different tests women may go through when examining infertility. In a fourth article, I will look at men and infertility tests, as well as approaches used to help conception called assisted human reproduction.

In this article:

  •    Women and Infertility
  •    Stages and Tests for Female Fertility

To write this article, I met with experts in the field who care about working with you when facing infertility issues. Even if science is evolving, reproduction issues remain complex and make couples feel insecure. Most people have limited knowledge about this health issue, and there are still many unknowns. Psychology is critical when talking about failure to conceive. Many parents admit that they hesitated before consulting a specialised clinic because they were scared of the results, but also because of the pain some procedures can involve.

Often, couples that go through the different stages of a fertility issue will say that they found this very specialised field cold and dehumanising. While not all fertility clinics are covered by this opinion, it highlights the importance of finding one that will meet your needs and fit with your personality. It’s essential to take the time and make an informed choice to increase your feeling of wellbeing and confidence.

Many things need to be considered and tested to understand a couple’s difficulty conceiving, both for men and women. It’s a good idea to get psychological support during this process because the couple will have to face different tests that may require “automated” sexuality. This can mean making love at the “right” time or masturbation on demand for sperm specimens. This directly impacts desire, spontaneity and intimacy that a couple needs to enjoy their sexuality.

It’s also not easy for a couple to deal with comments from their friends and family, referring to their failure to conceive. These comments can be disparaging, hinting to the fact that one of the two in the couple is abnormal, or that you have to see it in a positive light, that children are a pain, that it’s just a question of time, stop thinking about it, it will come naturally…This doesn’t help couples communicate their discomfort, their fears, anxiety with those around them.
