What can cigarettes do to my baby?

Questions/answers

My name is Sandra, and I’m 11 weeks pregnant. I was a big smoker before learning I was pregnant, and I am down to one cigarette a day, which makes me proud. I know that smoking isn’t good for you, but can you tell me what it can do to my baby? Thank you for all your help! Sandra

Dear Sandra, that’s amazing! You have taken significant steps which are not easy. Future mothers often change their habits concerned for their baby. But you are also giving yourself a gift. As you said, smoking is bad!

Nicotine and other chemical products found in cigarettes have impacts for the pregnant woman, the pregnancy, and also the baby. For more details, please read an article I wrote about smoking and pregnancy. It is directly in line with the recent updates released by the l’Institut national de santé Publique du Québec (INSPQ) about smoking and pregnancy.
