I’m pregnant and have acne!

Questions/answers

Marie, I’m 18 weeks pregnant and am really worried as I have acne all over my face and upper body. I have never had acne this bad. I tried to dry it in different ways, used creams, products…I also talked to a pharmacist and my doctor, but nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions to deal with this problem, because I really don’t like how it looks. I feel embarrassed. Thanks in advance, Frédérique

Frédérique, thank you for your question. I have met many women in your situation who feel very negative about how they look when they have acne during pregnancy.

Some prescribed acne medications are forbidden during pregnancy as they can affect the baby’s development. They are very dangerous.

You can’t take just anything to help your situation. Pregnancy is temporary though, and things should go back to normal over time. But if you would like some practical advice, I spoke with a dermatologist who answered questions about problems like yours. She offers guidance and possible solutions during pregnancy and when breastfeeding.

Please read Skin Problems During Pregnancy and watch the live video I filmed with the dermatologist which also deals with acne during pregnancy.
