The thalassotherapy approach for babies called the Thalasso Baby Bath® was developed by Sonia Krief, a French nurse working in the Muette Clinic in Paris. Mrs. Krief wanted to use thalassotherapy to offer babies a relaxing bath that calms and heals. Given to newborns, the Thalasso Baby Bath ® lowers the impacts of entering the extra-uterine world by respecting a baby’s pace and needs.

Over the past several years, Mrs. Krief has been training professionals working in newborn care. She teaches them about her approach and her vision of baths for newborns. The first Thalasso Baby Bath ® certified professionals were trained here in Quebec. Quebec babies are really lucky!

The Benefits of thalassotherapy

Thalassotherapy meets the relaxation, relief and rest needs for any individual based on their condition and age. Pregnant women can also use it through an adapted program. As an adult, water has great power to calm, relax muscles, release tension, soothe stiffness, relax muscle spasms and increase flexibility. It also has benefits for your psychological state, your mind that often needs to relax and let go.

Why do we suggest baths during labour on your way to childbirth? For these exact reasons! Hot water dilates skin pores, relaxes contracted muscles, activate circulation and the cardiovascular system and generally calms and relaxes the body.

Let’s look at the virtues of thalassotherapy.

The virtues of thalassotherapy

At its origin, the virtues of thalassotherapy stem from the virtues of a marine setting.

  1. Seawater is very rich in trace elements, mineral salts and vitamins which revitalise the body;
  2. Sea mud detoxifies, revitalises and increases the skin suppleness;
  3. Algae are antibacterial and antiviral, and help the skin regenerate;
  4. Sand helps remove skin deposits, dead skin, desquamation (peeling dry skin).
