Can a baby have a tooth when born?

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, my friend Suzanne told me her baby was born with a tooth. Is this possible, and is it frequent? What can expect for my baby Alex, who will arrive in a month? Mireille

Mireille, a baby’s teeth start forming in the uterus. Yes, some babies can be born with a tooth, but it’s usually not a real tooth, just cartilage. In the latter case, the doctor can pull on it to remove it, and if unable to a dentist will. But this is very rare. Teeth can pop out at any time, but on average they appear around 5-6 months.

In most cases, lower front teeth appear first, but it could be different for Alex. Only time will tell. I hope this helps. Please read my article about nipples and pacifiers that are suggested for a baby’s proper dental development.
