You are in love with the piercing blue eyes of your young baby, who is just a few months old. Is the color of their eyes definitive at this age?
You will have a better idea of the true color of their iris once they reach their first birthday, and even then, the color may become more defined and change to shades such as hazel or gray-green, for example!
The melanin in the eye is not activated at birth, since the baby has not yet been exposed to daylight. This is why the color of the iris will gradually become more defined as the melanin is activated. The more melanin there is, the darker the iris will be.
We often notice that babies retain their blue eye color after birth for a few weeks to a few months. At around 4 months, we can get a good idea of the more definitive color, especially if their eyes are darker, as the change is often faster than with light-colored eyes.
Genetic inheritance plays a role in this phenomenon, sometimes going back several generations. This means that children in the same family can have different iris colors.
So, in conclusion, only time will tell!
