My baby has bowed legs and I’m worried they will stay like that

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, my one-month-old baby has very bowed legs, and I’m worried they will stay like that. Even if I pull them straight, they go back to the original shape. The same thing for her feet, they point inwards…can you please reassure me?

Élise, a worried mother

Dear Élise,

Your baby spent nine months curled up in your stomach, so they will likely have bowed legs on birth. For most children, this will go back to normal over time. For their feet, they are flexible, and if you can point them outwards without resistance, this is a good sign. To learn more about the topic, I met with a podiatrist, Philippe Deschênes, and he took the time to answer questions parents sent me about their baby’s legs and feet.
