What age for a corrective helmet?

Postnatal, Your questions

Marie, my baby still has a flat head at 6 months even though I change positions. Should I expect to use a corrective helmet? At what age will it start, and how does it work? Thanks, Annick

Annick, a corrective helmet to help the baby’s skull shape if they have persistent, moderate to severe plagiocephaly, is recommended between 6-8 months. At this stage, there is an acceleration in the corrections that need to be made. You will need to get a referral from your doctor, as your baby is already 6 months old. You can expect to pay about $1,000 or a bit more for the evaluations and follow-up. The baby will have to wear the helmet 23 out of 24 hours for 3-4 months. I hope this answers your question, and please read my articles about baby motor development to learn about exercises that can help your situation.
