Can you tell me more about cytomegalovirus (CMV)?

11-12 weeks pregnant, Questions/answers

I’m worried about my pregnancy and my baby. My doctor just told me that they wanted to take a blood test to see if I’m infected with cytomegalovirus. I’m showing several symptoms. But as I wait for the results, I’m really concerned about my baby’s condition. I’m 26 weeks pregnant and my baby is growing fast. Can you tell me more about this infection? Thanks in advance, Julia

Julie, I don’t know your medical condition during your pregnancy, but if their observations made your doctor think that you have this infection, they are doing the right thing to check. I will talk in more detail about cytomegalovirus (CMV), defining it, talking about the causes, clinical signs and more. Please read my educational entry about CMV (cytomegalovirus) for the rest. Talk soon.
