Can I lose my baby if I continue to play sports while pregnant?

11-12 weeks pregnant, Health advice, Questions/answers

Marie, I am 16 weeks pregnant and naturally sportive, but people are telling me to stop playing sports because I could lose my baby. Do I need to be worried?

Current research shows that the benefits of exercise during pregnancy outweigh those of being sedentary, unless you have pregnancy complications of course. You need to take into account your capacities and limits, which will change as your pregnancy advances, when choosing the type of activities you do. You will need to adapt to your physical changes and also reduce your exercise intensity. To learn more, please read my article Exercise and Pregnancy.
