A friend told me I should wear gloves to garden in case cat stool is present. Is this true Marie?

Your friend’s right! In fact, it’s a preventative measure to avoid contaminating your hands if there’s an open wound (an entry). Other things you can do include washing your hands frequently (soap destroys the contaminant), carefully wash vegetables and fruit (due to contact with the earth) and wear gloves when changing the cat’s litter. Cat stool can contain parasites called Toxoplasma gondii, which can seriously impact the baby’s development during certain periods of pregnancy. Please read my article about toxoplasmosis (in french).
