I am pregnant and have urinary incontinence. What should I do?

9-10 weeks pregnant, Health advice, Questions/answers

Marie, over the past 2-3 weeks, I have been terrified of leaking urine. It has happened to me a couple of times when I would laugh, but it’s been getting worse with my pregnancy. I am 26 weeks pregnant, so I don’t need to tell you that it worries me a lot. I am far from finished! Can you help?

Thanks!

Sonia

It’s always a good idea to ask questions about what is happening to you to help stabilise your situation, even during pregnancy. YES, you can take action to avoid the situation becoming worse. At the same time, you can improve your recovery during the postnatal period. Please read Urinary Incontinence: Pregnancy and the Postnatal Period. In it, Marie-Ève, a physiotherapist specialising in pelvic rehabilitation, joins me to talk about different things you can do.
