If I have a low volume of amniotic fluid, is it dangerous for my baby?

Marie, my doctor told me that I had a very low volume of amniotic fluid. I will have another ultrasound next week to see if it changes. I am 36 weeks pregnant, is it dangerous for my baby? I forgot to ask my doctor as I was in a state of shock.

That’s a good question France. A very low percentage of women will have a low or very low volume of amniotic fluid. This pregnancy complication is called oligohydramnios. As your doctor advised, an ultrasound will allow them to monitor the situation to evaluate the risks and option of giving birth early.
